Hi there!
Just thought I'd stick my head in, say hi and all that! Really glad to have stumbled across this little band of merry wordsmiths! Being the new boy and all, I wanted to introduce m'self in a bit more depth and detail than I have on my profile page :) The name's Scott, and I'm a freelance journalist/writer/editor-type from the UK. I've always been aware of steampunk, being a huge comic/rpg/board game/fantasy fiction geek and all, but never really found myself part of the scene until a few months ago.
Whatever it was that got me hooked also fired a huge burst of creative energy, and prompted me to start work on my first piece of fiction for publication - a story submission for The First Line based on one of the characters from my recently-started novel Aetherjack. The basic premise of the novel involves the discovery of a new power source called Aether, which is tapped by building huge refineries on key ley lines throughout the world and then used to power everything from automobiles to guns to huge cross-continent land trains. Of course, seeing as most of these sites fall within the confines of the British Empire the Brits have become a phenomenally powerful force, and the Government will stop at nothing to keep things that way. Aetherjack's plot describes the childhood and early life of one of the thousands of childres sent below the Earth's surface to tap into the ley lines and siphon off the aetheric energy, before something happens to make him flee the confines of the workhouse in which he lives and... well, I'll get off my backside and finish writing it, then you'll find out ;)
Anyway, I'm really, really stoked to be here and can't wait to mix, mingle and chew the fat with y'all in the not-too-distant!
By the by, is anyone attending Waltz on the Wye?
See you around!
Scott
