Hello All, yes, just like the title says, I am here to try to find people who want to work with me on a project that I am currently working on. Just to give you some history (warning, I tend to be wordy), I've been playing video games for 30 years now, ever since I was 7. I recently dipped in to mobile games, because my wife bought me an iPad. Being the snobby game connoisseur that I am, I have found the current market to be highly lacking in even remotely decent games. No offense to anyone who likes Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, that's just not my style of game. So, since there seems to be a large gap in the market, I've decided to do something about it.
I am not a programmer, although I do know my way around html, css, wiki structure...stuff like that. I would prefer to just make the game and let someone else build it with an engine, and add their tweaks. I found quickly that my idea is not very, well....conventional. And the programming community may just try to laugh me off of Kickstarter when I launch my project with only a Game Design Document (Unless I find a programmer that wants to join before then). I really do find it extremely odd that no actual programming experience is necessary, in order to be a game designer, but that doesn't seem to be the way the industry works. Bah! I'm going to try anyway.
Since I am going to try to rock their boat, I thought that if a concept artist and a writer wanted to join me, and, IMHO, add some absolutely necessary depth with their art forms, it would absolutely increase the chances of the project succeeding. A good storyline in a game enhances the experience more than a lot of people realize. Especially with the new crowd of mobile gamers who have not yet been exposed to a more immersive experience. As far as art, well, that just kind of goes without saying. Most of the big collector box sets that I have bought in the past will come with an entire book, filled with concept art from all stages of the process.
So, if you are still reading this, you probably want to know why I am here. Well, I will tell you. Right now. Just one more sentence. Sorry, couldn't help myself. OK, for real...the game I am making is going to be called OreWay. At least the code name, at this point. I started with that because it will be a city building simulator with metals being the main focus for resources. I chose this because it will give an almost endless supply of things to add content with after the initial launch. So, that's what I started with. Then I met an indie writer named Cory Mays. While I was chatting with him about the genre for the game, he said that I should do automatons instead of what I was thinking, which was golems. I ran with that and decided that doing automatons with a steampunk theme would actually be really cool, aside from probably being the first game of this type with this theme.
And, that is what brought me here. I hope this is not inappropriate to post here, but if it is, please feel free to delete it. I will finally stop talking now. Thanks for your time and good luck with your own endeavors.
