I saw Cowboys and Aliens last night and rather liked it. I know some reviews have come back negative, but I thought it contained all the classic motifs of great westerns along with the nice weird edge. Quality good guys who aren't always so good and even a feel good sort of ending. I think it will be a little boost for the weird west genre in general. I dare say I liked it more than the Wild Wild West movie a while back.

The more I explore SWAG, the more excited I become!  I am writing in the Steampunk Western sub-(sub)-genre and have been making it my business to track down all of the Steampunk Western related material.

In addition to the Wild Wild West (both the original Robert Conrad and the Will Smith), the other classic is Brisco County Jr.  Being a Bruce Campbell fan certainly doesn't hurt.

Books - I am currently reading Mike Resnick's "Buntline Special."

I too would be interested Don. I'm also reading Buntline and likeing it. I just released my first weird Western, Fistful of Reefer. Available at the Kindle story and just about everywhere (ebook only).

Sure - dwbeyer.com.  Some of the longer character sketches I wrote before starting the book are back in Oct-Nov. last year (sheesh!  I can't believe it took me a year to write a draft).

THanks, Don. I tried to comment on your blog via my iPad (I have the same plug-in onswipe, by the way) but the comment form was wigged out and I couldn't get it to post. Just thought I would let you know. I've been having some website ills myself. It feels like a full time job in and of itself. But your sticky post about your manuscript was enough to get me interested. Sounds like you are working on a great world. I would love to hear any feedback you might have on Fistful of Reefer. I'm working on the second in the series now and love to get critique that will make me better!

Ugh - I know what you mean.  iPad + Wordpress = pain.  I just bumped Reefer to the top of the queue.  I am probably not the greatest when it comes to critique, but I will do my very best.  Oh yeah, I also saw Cowboys and Aliens over the weekend too.  Lots of fun.  I like what they did with the Colonel.  He started as a very unlikable character and by the end was very sympathetic.  Liked how they pulled the oldest trick in the book - put the boy in dangerous situation to evoke empathy.  Fun stuff.
