Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition

Started Dec 26, 2010 0 Replies

Hey all! I'm not sure how many of you are Canadian, or at least close enough to Toronto to be interested in this, but I thought it was worth posting a link to.  It's the first year for this con, and…Continue

Introduce yourself!
I'm an author and actress who has recently ventured into Steampunk territory. My short story "The Clockwork Corset" will be appearing in the YA Romance Steampunk Anthology "Corsets & Clockwork" (May 2011), and my first Young Adult novel (also Steampunk), THE FRIDAY SOCIETY, is being published by Penguin in 2012.

My other two children's novels (published by Weinstein Books in the States, Scholastic in the UK/Commonwealth) are ALEX AND THE IRONIC GENTLEMAN and TIMOTHY AND THE DRAGON'S GATE.
What do you hope to find at The Steampunk Writers & Artists Guild?

Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition Video Report

A couple weekends ago, Toronto hosted the first ever Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition. It was the brainchild of Adam Smith, who had much help from two very talented ladies: Liana K and Lee Ann Farruga.

I was invited as an author panelist (plug time! THE FRIDAY SOCIETY, my YA out in 2012 with Dial is what I call Steampunk Charlie’s Angels without the Charlie). It was a really great time.

The Exhibition went off brilliantly, was very well attended and I am already excited about next year!

Here below is my report on the con, my very first attempt to produce and direct a segment like this. I got some pretty cool interviews with the likes of Meinert Hansen - concept/design artist for such films as the 300, Spiderwick Chronicles, Stranger Than Fiction and Silent Hill; musician Genevieve Young from Psyche Corporation; and the gang from Mental Floss Sideshow, who gives us a lovely exclusive performance. And of course many others (including some of Professor Elemental‘s fabulous show).

Special thanks goes to the remarkable Nadine Bell and MakeGoWork for helping me edit the whole thing together.

And . . . here it is!

THE FRIDAY SOCIETY cover reveal!!

Posted on April 3, 2012 at 8:00am 4 Comments

Hey all!!  So I am more than thrilled to reveal the cover for my YA Steampunk novel, THE FRIDAY SOCIETY (Dial, Penguin)!

It's kind of terrifying just putting it out there, and I am especially curious what this community will think.  Before anyone says anything, I do want to point out that the girl in the middle is not just wearing goggles because goggles represent Steampunk, it's actually a part of her hero costume and they allow her to see in the dark.  I say this, because, well, we…

I've done a couple more weeks of Steampunk Tuesdays, and here are those posts.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for a Steampunk Tuesday topic, or can recommend an artist they particularly like, or anything else, please let me know.  I'd love to feature it/them on my blog!…

Steampunk Tuesdays!

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 9:55am 0 Comments

Hey all!  I made a decision a few weeks back that I would blog about Steampunk awesomeness on Tuesdays over at my blog.  What makes this decision extra interesting is I had no idea the hashtag created by Nancy Overbury #SteamTuesdays already existed.  Evidently Tuesday is the Steampunkiest day of the week.

In any event, I neglected to share this new plan here, and so, now I will.

Here are the…

Tueazee is an exciting music group based in Augusta, GA. They have been making music for about a year now.Releasing music under the J Tizzle Muzic label, the group recently unveiled a new, exciting single titled “I Know.” The song is a great example of Tueazee’s pure and uncompromising combination of new and old-school hip-hop.
