Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion WHAT ARE YOU WRITING?
"So Tuesday I got a request for a full manuscript from an agent and I am in the middle of wild-re-writing (I was pursuing self-publishing, so I had set aside some edits that I knew I needed to do until later, after I set the artist balls rolling)...…"

Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion WHAT ARE YOU WRITING?
"Ah, see, "Alia Gee" is the *pen* name. Real last name is G....ski. ;) When I worked in London I gave my interviewees palpitations because they couldn't work out where I was from and "America" was insufficient. Perhaps they…"

Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion WHAT ARE YOU WRITING?
"As a person with an unusual last name, I hear you on considering a pen name!   I am in the awkward position of having a crazy extended family (such that online searches of my last name are *usually* me but occasionally them and/or their crazy)…"

Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion WHAT ARE YOU WRITING?
"You sound like me. :*) I really struggle with balancing efficiency and resource management (writing time is a precious resource!) with the excess and wanton destruction that seems to be inherent in the creative process. My husband, bless him, is the…"

Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion How Does Technology Affect the World of Your Story?
"Goggles and airships are the most steampunk tech elements in my current novel's world. (The airships are powered by photovoltaic cells on the wings and the goggles are for accessing a virtual reality, but...) Since so much of the British…"

Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion WHAT ARE YOU WRITING?
"Actually, all the professional advice I've heard/read is that as soon as you send out your first manuscript, start the second. Wildly hopeful, maybe, but hardly impractical. And I like wild hopes. :) "

Alia Gee replied to Lia Keyes's discussion WHAT ARE YOU WRITING?
"I'm terrible at alternative history because I have trouble forgetting what I know. :*) ...So over the summer I wrote a near future novel that I was calling steampunk-inspired until I worried that was too specific (Has steampunk's airship…"

Welcome to the Guild, Alia! We're not a critique group, but you could certainly put the word out if you'd like to find critique friends. The best way I've found to find critique group friends is to attend a workshop or class online. You can see what they write and how they write before you commit to a relationship with them! UCLA extension was very helpful to me in that regard.

Gavin Wilson replied to Gavin Wilson's discussion Wattpad: a new approach to writing and reading.
"Steampunk is definitely in the ascendence at the moment, there are some great books and films around. It's also good to see some of the more niche punks like Diesel and Clock going up on there too.   I'd love to see Bieber do…"
