"So Tuesday I got a request for a full manuscript from an agent and I am in the middle of wild-re-writing (I was pursuing self-publishing, so I had set aside some edits that I knew I needed to do until later, after I set the artist balls rolling)...…"
"Ah, see, "Alia Gee" is the *pen* name. Real last name is G....ski. ;) When I worked in London I gave my interviewees palpitations because they couldn't work out where I was from and "America" was insufficient. Perhaps they…"
"As a person with an unusual last name, I hear you on considering a pen name!
I am in the awkward position of having a crazy extended family (such that online searches of my last name are *usually* me but occasionally them and/or their crazy)…"
"You sound like me. :*) I really struggle with balancing efficiency and resource management (writing time is a precious resource!) with the excess and wanton destruction that seems to be inherent in the creative process. My husband, bless him, is the…"
"Goggles and airships are the most steampunk tech elements in my current novel's world. (The airships are powered by photovoltaic cells on the wings and the goggles are for accessing a virtual reality, but...) Since so much of the British…"
"Actually, all the professional advice I've heard/read is that as soon as you send out your first manuscript, start the second. Wildly hopeful, maybe, but hardly impractical. And I like wild hopes. :)
"I'm terrible at alternative history because I have trouble forgetting what I know. :*) ...So over the summer I wrote a near future novel that I was calling steampunk-inspired until I worried that was too specific (Has steampunk's airship…"

Welcome to the Guild, Alia! We're not a critique group, but you could certainly put the word out if you'd like to find critique friends. The best way I've found to find critique group friends is to attend a workshop or class online. You can see what they write and how they write before you commit to a relationship with them! UCLA extension was very helpful to me in that regard.

"Gavin, while we have you captured here... is there a Wattpad widget I can add to my FB author page?
I would love to be able to add a tab to my FB page, showing my Wattpad content, so people who find me that way can click straight through. I…"
"Oooh, good to know. I like this. As soon as I come out of Amazon Select for a title of mine, I'm going to dive into Wattpad with it. Darn Amazon is so good at favoring its Select titles, it's hard to make the break when you're just…"
"That's right. Caitlin was her name. OK, I'll get on that asap that I have a cover for it I like.
Thanks for your tips and info, Gavin. And for helping to make mobile a major format for ebooks. Things are really taking off internationally…"
"I suspect if we started a Steampunk group, we'd then have to start a Dystopian one, a Bieber one, a 'we love tomatoes' one and numerous others =]
You're more than welcome to start a steampunk chat thread in the Sf club…"
"Steampunk is definitely in the ascendence at the moment, there are some great books and films around. It's also good to see some of the more niche punks like Diesel and Clock going up on there too.
I'd love to see Bieber do…"
"I hear you. :-) Y'all need to get that Justin Bieber steampunk-styled video on your site as a reminder to teen girls that steampunk is cool. Better yet, get Justin Bieber to write a steampunk novel. I'll ghost write it for him! (not…"
