Red Wheels Turning now on Kindle

Red Wheels Turning, my new "steampulp" novel, is now available on the Kindle Store. Price is $4.50 (and at the moment, Amazon seem to be adding their $2 non-American surcharge if you live outside the USA - I have actually got them to remove it for my other two titles). You may want to wait a little before ordering it from outside the USA, or you can always go through Smashwords. From Christopher Belton,…See More

How do you make a book site, especially for a book that has yet to be published? Here's my idea - comments welcome: Red Wheels Turning

"It's a fascinating way to do a trailer - the hand-drawn images add a really great immediacy. I wonder what the whole book would be like done that way (that's not a serious suggestion – at this stage of the proceedings, anyway)."

News from Kamakura

Amazon seem to have spontaneously made my $5.99 Kindle download of Beneath Gray Skies into a free download (at least in the USA). I was not asked or consulted about this. Hope that this will result in some money coming to me, as I actually made it to #29 in the Kindle Free rankings - and #3 in the Historical genre. That means that at one time, only 28 Kindle titles in the world were doing better than my book. Now down to about #40, which is much better than I had ever hoped for.In other news,…See More

Now on my second proof - need advance reviews

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 5:03pm 3 Comments

My latest novel, Red Wheels Turning, is now starting to take its final form. It's quite close to our timeline, though it falls into the same universe as my previous alternate history novel, Beneath Gray Skies.

It's a prequel in that it's in the same universe as Beneath Gray Skies, and uses the same characters, but it does have some rather fantastic steampunk elements…

Had other things on my mind

As you will see if you look at my profile, I live in Japan. We have had a number of distractions recently, and though I and my wife are actually pretty safe here (we haven't been hit by serious earthquakes or by any tsunami, and the nuclear crisis will almost certainly not affect us), life is not easy or certain at the moment.

However, the poor people further to the north of us are in a bad way, and will continue to be very…

Okay, I might have to hate you now. That's truly impressive work. And you write, too? Grrrrr.... :)

Your novel look fascinating, Hugh! I'll put it on my Christmas list. Sounds like you must have done a good bit of research, despite it being alternate history. The research is often one of my favorite aspects of writing.
