Colbert Dirt: Windsor Novelist takes on Stephen Colbert

I know it’s not Steampunk but it is news.  I thought you might be interested to know what I’m up to when I’m not creating my novels.  Recently, I have taken on Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report.  Why?  Well, he pissed me off when he accused my adopted home town of being the “earth’s rectum.”  Have some fun and read what I had to say on my web page entitled “Colbert Dirt” at: http://www.markacarter.com/colbert.html.  Enjoy.See More

Tripping the Light Fantastic

Canadian speculative fiction novelist Mark A. Carter gives his two cents worth about useless, dilettante, novelist "wannabes" who think that writing is merely tripping the light fantastic, and about disingenuous, intimidated, and rude people who discover that he is a novelist.Writing novels for a living is not for the meek. It is not for the mild. It isn't for milquetoasts who want to punch in at nine and punch out at five. Read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert M. Pirsig, to…See More

Introduce yourself!
I am a full time speculative fiction novelist toying with the prospect of leaving romance and sci-fi and devoting myself to Steampunk. I live with my wife in the outskirts of Canada and in the shadow of so-called civilization.

In "Fictions of Every Kind," J. G. Ballard wrote: "Everything is becoming science fiction. From the margins of an almost invisible literature has sprung the intact reality of the 20th century."

I have agreed with Ballard for years. But now, based on all of the wondrous creativity I have seen of late, I think everything is becoming Steampunk.

So, I have given up my otherwise dabblings in science fiction per se for Steampunk. And starting in 2013, after I finish this, that, and the other, I shall be writing Steampunk full time. Heaven help us. Hold onto your goggles, hats, and weapons ladies. Steampunk may never be the same. I just hope I don't break anything. Stay tuned.

Now you know.
