"For me, the challenge with Steampunk is maintaining a high level of "steampunkness" without sacrificing character depth. My stories tend to be character-driven, so I have to be very careful to incorporate the steampunk elements without…"

Introduce yourself!
Hi! I write speculative fiction, including the steampunk series featuring Josephine Winterdove. The first short story of this series "Miss Winterdove and the Erupting Eulogist" is scheduled to appear in the CLOCKWORK CHAOS anthology edited by Neal Levin.

My fiction has appeared in the anthologies Ravens in the Library, Vile Things: Extreme Deviations of Horror, and Cobalt City Christmas.

During the day, I'm a writer/game designer at ArenaNet, where I'm part of a vast team effort to make the coolest MMORPG ever: Guild Wars 2. At night, I'm head editor at WilyWriters.com.

SFWA & HWA active member.

Jack Tyler replied to Lia Keyes's discussion Phillip Reeve Calls for Greater Scientific Plausibility in Steampunk Fiction!
"Half the self-appointed experts say that steampunk is a burgeoning new field that's about to take off, the other half say it never had any life, and will be buried next week.  I wish these folks would make up their minds so that I'll…"

Norman Hugh Redington replied to Lia Keyes's discussion Phillip Reeve Calls for Greater Scientific Plausibility in Steampunk Fiction!
"Here is an example of a new technological development of obvious relevance to steampunk, a press release from MIT issued just today: Steam from the sun --- New sponge-like structure converts solar energy into steam. This would seem like a useful…"

Norman Hugh Redington commented on Jack Tyler's blog post Storm Clouds Gathering
"Dear Mr. Tyler, Please take the following question as just that -- a question ; I have no fixed opinion on this subject: Are projects like this necessarily any more damaging to writers than the traditional public library ? If a library buys a book…"

Elizabeth Schechter replied to Darke Conteur's discussion Sex in Steampunk
"I never said the history books are wrong. They're just not telling you everything. A single source of history never tells the entire story. There simply isn't enough room! Likewise, you cannot base your learning of history on a single…"

Leslie Orton replied to Darke Conteur's discussion Sex in Steampunk
"Ms. Schechter, You are passionately defending a point that no one is disputing. No one is claiming that sex didn't exist in the Victorian era. You are missing the point. The question that started this thread was whether sex scenes are…"

Elizabeth Schechter replied to Darke Conteur's discussion Sex in Steampunk
"And just because an era is modest and decorous in the history books doesn't make it so. To say that sex in steampunk appears too modern is to deny that there was a heavily sexual aspect to the Victorian era. The Pearl is still in print. Man…"
