Review of Vaporpunk by Larry Nolen

Some nice words from Mr. Larry Nolen about Vaporpunk:

"In mid-October, I received a copy of the Luso-Brazilian steampunk anthology, Vaporpunk, edited by Gerson Lodi-Ribeiro and Luis Filipe Silva.  Along with Fábio Fernandes, I helped translate the opening paragraphs to the eight stories in this original…

Introduction and interview

Hello All,

I have just joined this fine group and look forward to meeting other Steampunk creators.  I thought it might be helpful to post an interview I have just completed with the Conselho Steampunk from Brazil as a way to share what I'm up to.  Who else in this group is working in a crossover between Steampunk and elements of Gothic Horror?  Would love to see other projects and ideas happening in the Aethersphere.  In case…

It's a steampunk world

I have to say: one of the best things to come out of Larry and Fábio's international presentation of Vaporpunk has to be the wealth of really cool Steampunk sites from around the world that I've been casually discovering - such as this one.

Prometheus

In 2009, Ms. Canolli Capalini was sponsoring another writing contest in Second Life and I cranked out a 600 word short story on the theme of Victorian robotics/automatons/automatic men(or women(or children))/steampowered mechas/etcetera in about an hour. I did not win the contest but my story was republished in the online steampunk magazine "The Gatehouse Gazette", Issue 12, May… Continue

Dialogues

In 2008, Ms. Canolli Capalini of New Babbage's R.F.Burton Library in Second Life sponsored a flash fiction contest of under 600 words for the theme of Steampunk TimeTravel and, in an hour or so I set down the first draft of a story I called "Dialogues". Some small editing and I submitted it to win two thousands dollars and my piece became the title of the published anthology.

Of course, this is in Second Life where the exchange… Continue

Deadlands RPG

One of the things that I have done to practice my wordcraft is to fictionalize my role playing game sessions. While it keeps me writing, it doesn't help me much with some of the more challenging technical aspects of writing such as pacing and plot. It has lead me to conclude that I might be better suited to collaborative writing where I do the "script" and someone else works out the plot.

My first such RPG novelization was a Klingon RPG session from college in the 80s based on a FASA… Continue
