A SWAG annual award for Best in Steampunk - THE JULES VERNE AWARD!

How about it?  We at SWAG could promote it, call for submissions, and build a clientele for the best.  We could have several categories - best overall story, best gadgetry, most technically plausible; the Dru Pagliassotti best in social critique; best use of humor in steam; must 'punkish'.

 

What do you think?

I agree with Stephanie, if we're going to run this as an honest to goodness award, then we need categories for Art as well. Perhaps a category list like this:

Novel of the Year -- Overall

Best Alternate History

Best Romance

Best Horror

Best Fantasy

Most Inventive Technology

Favorite Protagonist

Favorite Antagonist

Dru Pagliassotti Award for Best Social Critique

Best Use of Humor

Most Plausible

Best Graphic Novel

Most Inventive Artwork

 

And any other categories we can come up with. We'd also need to consider who would judge the awards.

Wow, how did I only just now see this? What a super idea! I'm going to put my thinking cap on. While I love the name, it's not as snappy or easy to remember as the Hugos or the Oscars or the Nibbies, or whatever....

So, what category would anthologies fall under, and if an anthology is nominated can the individual stories be nominated as well? Are there guidelines somewhere? I'm all behind this!
