I've finished writing my novel. I'm somewhat worried that it may not be received well by the Steam Punk crowd. The first half is very much Steampunk-ish but in the second half it becomes hard scifi fantasy with future tech. I'm not apologetic but am curious about other's input.
I'm afraid you're not going to please everyone, no matter what you do, so the important thing is to stay true to your vision. It may be better received than you would expect.
It also depends on how you want to "sell" it. My book isn't pure Steampunk, either, so I tell people that it's a Victorian dark fantasy with Steampunk elements, or I just fall back on Gaslamp Fantasy. That way they know what to expect.
