Introduce yourself!
I am a working scientist, inspired by Tolkien and his world of elves and men. Imagine, for a moment, that you are the great tinkerer Feanor, who has just told the gods where to go, and the servant has just dropped a pot of steaming coffee into your lap! The starting premise (without the Tolkienesq names) for The People of the Lie - my WIP.
What do you hope to find at The Steampunk Writers & Artists Guild?
I'm looking for The Dark Side! Yes, the Victorian era was one of slavery, genocide, poverty, and suffrage. Along with the glory and novelty of gadgets and airships, I hope to find ways to write about the arrogance, the opulence that coexisted with desperation, and the multi-class oriented society.

A SWAG annual award for Best in Steampunk - THE JULES VERNE AWARD!

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 9:00pm 5 Comments

How about it?  We at SWAG could promote it, call for submissions, and build a clientele for the best.  We could have several categories - best overall story, best gadgetry, most technically plausible; the Dru Pagliassotti best in social critique; best use of humor in steam; must 'punkish'.

What do you think?

At some point we might be as big as the Hugos!  ;-)
