Hello everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself very briefly as a new member.  My name is Sean Burnside and I'm an aspiring new author.  I am not -however- a young author by any means.  I postpone my youthful dreams as a storytelling due to a series of compromises and have only now, with the aid ans support of my wonderful spouse, rekindled my desire to publish.

I am in the process of completing my first novel and entering into a preliminary cycle of editing, re-drafting and then submission to peer reviewers.  Thus I am most curious in reading about the process and travails of my (soon-to-be) fellow authors.  I am most interested in the experience of self-publishing versus legacy publishing as each presents its own rewards and trials.

My story fiction work has always tended towards concepts of morality and predestination, of confronting the inner demons we gain and create and either embrace those demons or surpassing them.  As such, my current work delves deeply into those questions within a paradigm of a turn-of-the-century alternative Europe.  While I incorporate some of the more typical Steampunk standards into my novels, I naturally tend less to less fantastical, gizmo-laden facets and more to a dystopian world.  This in itself poses problems as Steampunk is a vibrant, often joyous genre and I fear 'greyification' might make my work less salable.

That being said, I am resolved in the tale I seek to tell.  I look forward to following everyone progress and successes and equally hope to share with you my own experiences and triumphs.

Sean, welcome!  I just self-published in March and wish I had good information to share, but I did mine through Kindle on Amazon and had the easiest of times putting it out into the aether.  I hope you have the same easy and enjoyable experience, no matter the route you choose to take.

As a sidenote, "Burnside" made some remarkable rifles in the 1800's.

Also some fantastic facial hair :)

I'm kind of torn deciding how I want to initially release my novel, vis a vis self-publish or traditionally publish.  Thankfully, I'm still a ways from that point, so I have some time to research and evaluate my options.
